My top 5 holistic tips for 2024
It seems like everywhere we look, we are being hit with toxins and poisons from food, clothing, personal care products and out outside environment. Even just 30-40 years ago, we were not being exposed to the amount of toxins that we are today. No wonder chronic illnesses are on the rise.
I think it's important to realize that it is impossible to live in a non-toxic bubble in 2024. We must do our best to combat what we are exposed to without driving ourselves bat-shit crazy. These five tips are not new and are not revolutionary but it has dramatically made a shift in our household.
1.) Shop local and organic
If you’re familiar with the wellness community, you know that this has become more important over the past few years. It has been proven that non-organic foods are drenched with chemicals that cause cancer, birth defects, and a ton of other health problems. Finding local, organic farmers connects you with the food you’re consuming and helps you build relationships with the people who actually grow your food. The best way to know something is truly organic is to get to know the person who makes it!
2.) Get rid of the seed oils
Another hot topic of discussion in the wellness community, but what even is a seed oil? Seed oils are used in restaurants, dressings, packaged food, and SO much more. So what makes them bad? Seed oils are highly processed and inflammatory oils that can cause a ton of… you guessed it… inflammation in the body. Swap these oils out for avocado oil, olive oil, butter, ghee or coconut oil.
3.) Get better sleep
This is one of my husband and my biggest goals in 2024, maybe because we have a baby on the way but also because it will help us establish healthy routines and get us better quality sleep (when we can sleep!) Minimizing blue-light exposure at least an hour before bed and getting sunlight first thing in the morning regulates your circadian rhythm so your body knows when it is time to sleep and time to wake up.
4.) Move your body
I struggle with working out. You would think as a competitive dancer for the majority of my life, I would want to stay in shape but trying to stick to a workout routine is extremely challenging for me. The bare minimum I force myself to do is walk and stretch. It is so important for your lymphatic system, cardiovascular health, mental wellbeing and SO MUCH MORE. Get up, get outside and get to moving your body.
5.) Cultivate positive relationships
This one is probably the most important on this list. Your relationships, friendships, family members are some of the most impactful people in your lives. In a digital age, we are more disconnected than ever. Schedule a coffee meetup with your friend, set up a weekly family dinner, enjoy a date night at home, all of these things make a positive impact on your emotional well-being and greatly improves your overall health.
